Westville – The Purdue University North Central Construction Club took first place in the annual campus holiday tree decorating contest.
Club President Nicholas Ayres, thought it was appropriate for the club to take an unusual approach to the contest. Rather than decorating one of the evergreen trees provided for the contest, he suggested the club members build their own tree with wood.
Using computer-aided design (CAD) program, Ayres designed the tree and posted it near the College of Engineering and Technology classrooms so that he could get input from Construction Club members and fellow students.
Once a design was decided upon, Ayres and club member David Formenty built the tree and painted it Purdue black and gold. In the meantime they made ornaments that depicted a variety of construction hand tools and wreaths that were actually laminated photos of club members working on their community service.
