PNC Campus Bookstore Collecting Toys for Tots

Westville –The Purdue North Central Campus Bookstore is hosting its annual Toys for Tots collection on campus through Dec. 13.

Community members are invited to join PNC students, faculty and staff in bringing new, unwrapped toys to the PNC Bookstore, located in the Library-Student-Faculty Building, Room 01. As a thank you for donations, the bookstore will present donors with a 10 percent-off coupon to be used at the PNC Bookstore for regular priced apparel and giftware through Dec. 21.

Bookstore hours for Nov. 26 through Dec. 13 will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday. The bookstore has an array of gift items for children, including stuffed animals and value-priced books to make shopping convenient. Those who wish to make a monetary donation my do so in check or money order form, made out to “Toys for Tots.”

The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens. Toys for Tots began in 1947, when Major Bill Hendricks, USCR and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. Since beginning the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program in 1947, Marines have distributed more than 452 million toys to more than 209 million needy children. This charitable endeavor has made U.S. Marines the unchallenged leader in looking after less fortunate children at Christmas.

Information about the PNC campaign may be obtained by contacting Susan Pearson, store manager of the Purdue North Central Campus Bookstore at 785-5200, ext. 5482.
