PNC - Porter County Academic Super Bowl Invitational

WESTVILLE – Purdue North Central - Porter County will host its third annual Academic Super Bowl Invitational on Wednesday, March 4 in the Library-Student-Faculty (LSF) Assembly Hall, Room 02, located on the PNC Westville campus. Registration begins at 3:45 p.m. There is a coaches and proctors meeting at 4 p.m. and the competition will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a welcome by PNC Chancellor Dr. James B. Dworkin.

The competition will be held in the Library-Student-Faculty (LSF) Building in Assembly Hall, Room 02 and will be telecast to LSF 144 for spectators. Students from eight of the nine Porter County High Schools will compete in the senior-division event. The event is free and open to the public. Participating high schools are: Chesterton High School , Hebron High School , Kouts High School , Morgan Township High School , Portage High School , Valparaiso High School , Washington Township High School and Wheeler High School .

The competition theme is Norse Culture And Its Influence On the World. Students will compete in six subject areas - English, science, fine arts, social studies, math and interdisciplinary. Awards will be given to the winning school in each subject area as well as an overall winner. Each competing student, coach, proctor and student assistant will receive a voucher for use at the PNC Gallery Café and Coffee Central. The café, Coffee Central and the PNC bookstore will be open until 8 p.m.

The competition schedule is

4:40 p.m. - Fine Arts, Judy Jacobi, PNC assistant vice chancellor of Marketing and Community Relations,

5:20 p.m. - Social Studies, John Coggins, PNC Dean of Students

6:00 p.m. – Science, Dr. Aaron Warren, PNC assistant professor of Physics

6:40 p.m. - English, Dr. Paul Hecht, PNC assistant professor of English

7:20 p.m. - Math, Jim Jepsen, PNC guest lecturer in Math

8:00 p.m. - Interdisciplinary, Dr. Mark Jacobi , Michigan City pediatrician

8:40 p.m. - Awards, Stephen Turner, PNC interim vice chancellor, Administration.

Super Bowl competition in Indiana is part of the Indiana Association of School Principals, Department of Student Programs. It is a unique inter-scholastic academic competition program which allows Indiana 's senior high, junior, middle and elementary school students an opportunity to compete in academics similar to the way they compete in athletics. These competitions recognize, reward and celebrate scholars.
