PNC Announces Computer & Information Technology Chair

WESTVILLE – Dr. Judy Serwatka has been appointed to the position of Chair, Computer & Information Technology for the College of Engineering and Technology at Purdue University North Central.
Serwatka has been a member of the Purdue University faculty since 1985. Prior to joining PNC, Serwatka taught courses in the CIS area for a number of years at Purdue University Calumet. She also worked as a systems engineer at Bethlehem Steel and worked in private industry.
She earned her Ed.D. in Business Education from Northern Illinois University with minors in Management Information Systems and Instructional Technology. She received an M.S. in Management, and an A.S. and a B.S. in Computer Technology from Purdue University Calumet.
Serwatka has worked with various distance education initiatives for more than 10 years. In addition, she is the author of more than 40 articles and conference presentations. She is also the author of a textbook, “Business Data Communications, Introductory Concepts and Techniques.”
Her work has been widely honored. She received a Certificate of Recognition for Innovative Teaching in a Distance Education Program from the Indiana Higher Education Telecommunication System (IHETS) in 2002, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award in 2003 presented by the Network and Systems Professionals Association (NaSPA), earned an IPSE Award for Leadership and Innovation from IHETS in 2004 and received the Distinguished Leadership Award from NaSPA in 2005 and was named Project Merlot Volunteer of the Year in 2005.
