PNC Students Present 20th Anniversary Reader’s Theatre
WESTVILLE – Purdue University North Central students will present the 20th Anniversary Performance of the Annual Readers’ Theatre Potpourri Of Literature on Monday March 31, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. and Sunday, April 6, at 2:30 p.m. in the Library-Student-Faculty Building Assembly Hall, Room 02. The program is free and open to the public. It will last about one hour.
This year’s program is entitled, “A Journey in Time.” The Reader’s Theatre has been a fixture on the PNC campus since 1989. This event emerged as a result of a classroom activity for students in the Communication 240 class, Introduction to Oral Interpretation.
The Oral Interpretation class focuses upon the performance of all genres of literature before an audience. The current program, and others performed in the past, features a theme and examples of literature that support it. Based on the traditions of Reader's Theatre, the program features "readers" with a book or script present. The selections are performed in a presentational style in an environment that does not pretend to be anything other than a performance space. Performers assume a variety of personas depending on the demands of each selection.
The director is Dr. Daniel L. Padberg, associate professor of communication. Participating students in Padberg's Communication 240 class are Brandon Bigman, Chesterton; Misty Bottos, Valparaiso; Charles Delak, North Judson; Justin Diehl, LaPorte; Lana Glorioso, Portage; Nicole Gurrola, LaPorte; ,Ashley Kahn, Michigan City; Flavia Lee-Cheng, Westville; Kyle Leffler, Michigan City; Cara Lohman, Michigan City; Katherine McVeigh, Portage; Jared Mrozinske, LaPorte; Kayla Mrozinske, LaPorte; Matthew Schutz, LaPorte; Zachary Solomon, Valparaiso; Bryan Tilford, Valparaiso; Arielle Torres, LaPorte and Stephanie Wisneski, Michigan City.
