PNC Faculty Member Honored by American Red Cross

PNC Faculty Member Honored By American Red Cr oss

Westville – Purdue University North Central faculty member Kent Lange has been awarded the Hargrave Award by the American Red Cross LaPorte County Chapter.

Lange, a PNC continuing lecturer of Biology, was presented the award in recognition of his many hours of service and support given to the Red Cross. The award is named for John Hargrave, a long-time volunteer and board member of the LaPorte County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Hargrave was a dedicated supporter in time and donations and served as chapter chairperson. Hargrave was executive of Hargrave, Boston , and Taylor Insurance in LaPorte. He was given the title of honorary board member with the chapter. Hargrave passed away in 2003 and this award is given to a board member for outstanding board leadership and chapter support.

Lange, a member of the American Red Cross LaPorte County Chapter board, volunteers as the c hapter photographer. He has documented all fundraisers. He is currently on the nominating committee and is one of three Red Cross board members to serve on the Smooth Jazz Board.

At PNC Lange teaches Human Anatomy and Physiology, Fundamentals of Biology and Biology in Society. He was awarded Outstanding Teacher in Science in 2005.

He taught Biology in the Michigan City Area Schools for more than 32 years before retiring. During that time, he was named the Outstanding Northwest Indiana Science/Mathematics Teacher by the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society and was the National Association of Biology Teachers Outstanding Biology Teacher for Indiana . He was presented with the “Second Mile Award, Service, Excellence and Then Some” by the Michigan City Area Schools and was named to the Michigan City Area Schools Wall of Fame in 2007.

He has served as past-president of the Michigan City Zoological Society, past-president of the Michigan City Chapter of the Red Cross, former member of the Michigan City Summer Festival Committee, first vice-president of the LaPorte County Chapter of the Red Cross and was president of the Michigan City Scholarship Foundation. Lange earned his B.S. from Butler University (Biology) and his M.S. at St. Mary's University in Winona , Minn.
