PNC Poetry Festival Award Winners

WESTVILLE – Purdue University North Central student Scott Schwaller, LaPorte, earned first place in the Spring Poetry Festival on campus.

Second place went to Corey Schumacher, Portage. Winners of the Judges' Awards were Dan Green, Chesterton, Thelma Westman, Michigan City, Melissa Turner, LaPorte, Katie Anderson, Valparaiso and Michelle Parker, Michigan City.

The annual event was sponsored by the English Department's Recruitment and Retention Committee and the Michigan City Public Library. The competition, held in celebration of William Shakespeare’s birthday, was held at Shakespeare’s Garden on campus and attracted about 20 poets who presented their original poetry. This event has gained a reputation as an opportunity for students to show their creativity and imagination in a non-classroom, casual setting, for the enjoyment of their friends, families and the community as a whole.

The Festival also featured a presentation of poetry and music by internationally known performer Val Gray Ward, founder of Chicago’s Kuumba Theatre Co.
