The film will be shown on Friday, Feb 15 at 7 p.m. in LaPorte High School’s Schulze Hall; Sunday, Feb 17 at 2 p.m. at the Michigan City Public Library and on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. at PNC in the Library-Student-Faculty Building Assembly Hall Room 02. The film is rated PG. There is some mild language, incidental smoking and some brief violent images.
This is a documentary film directed by David Sington that looks at the extraordinary accomplishment of the American lunar space program. Through a deft mixture of archival film footage and commentaries of the surviving astronauts of the nine Apollo moonshots, viewers are able to share their adventure. The film does not focus on the technological aspects of the program, but instead centers on the men themselves.
Some of the archival footage was taken from the original NASA films, including some that has not been used publicly. The historic footage has been remastered and the mostly color footage looks new.
Also included is film of the international reaction to the U.S. landing a man on the moon. Film gathered from around the world shows people marveling in the accomplishment. The film notes that when one of the astronauts said “we” went to the moon, he mean “we” as all of humanity. Man last visited the moon in December, 1972.
