“The Kite Runner” is based on the best-selling novel of the same name and tells the story of an Afghan refugee who, even after living in America, carries haunting memories of his childhood. The narrator is a 38-year-old novelist known as Amir, played by Scottish-born actor Khalid Abdalla. Amir returns to Afghanistan after living in California because his friend’s son is in trouble. The film features Amir’s memories of his childhood, his father, his best friend, the kites they flew and the stories they shared. There is also a portrait of Afghan culture, landscapes, colorful sights and smiling boys and many high-flying kites.
The film’s director Marc Forster avoids politics and history so no political causes or positions are presented.
Purdue University North Central Odyssey Arts and Cultural Events Series features various events throughout the year. A complete schedule of events can be found at www.pnc.edu.
