PNC Faculty To be Part of Economic Discussion Forums

WESTVILLE – Purdue University North Central faculty members will be discussing the national and regional economic picture at two upcoming community events.

On Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Valparaiso University Harre Union, Dr. Alan Krabbenhoft, dean of the College of Business; Dr. Derek Bjonback, associate professor of Economics and Anthony Sindone, continuing lecturer of Economics, will take part in a collaborative effort by the newly formed Regional Council of Economic Advisors to showcase research on the economy of the seven-county region of Northwest Indiana. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m., with the program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This event will bring together business, community and education leaders to create a snapshot of the region's economic state that can be reviewed annually to help plan for the future.

Project contributors are: Center for Workforce Innovation, Dun & Bradstreet, economists from Indiana University Northwest, Ivy Tech, Purdue Calumet, Purdue North Central and Valparaiso University. Sponsors include Duneland Economic Development Company, NIPSCO, NWI Forum and NWI Small Business Development Center.

On Thursday, Nov. 10, Krabbenhoft and Sindone, will be joined by Dr. Daniel Rutledge, associate professor of Marketing, in presenting the Economic Outlook 2012, hosted by the Greater Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce Percolator Club meeting, at noon at Strongbow Inn.

Points to be discussed include the short-term economic outlook on both national and regional levels; a focal point survey on the business climate in Porter County; the short-term economic outlook for the national and regional economy, international trends in the global economy and banking and the current economic situation.
