PNC Chancellor Dworkin Presented With Liberty Bell Award
WESTVILLE – Purdue University North Central Chancellor Dr. James B. Dworkin was presented with the LaPorte County Bar Association Liberty Bell Award as part of its 2007 Law Day activities.
This year’s Law Day theme was “Liberty Under Law: Empowering Youth, Assuring Democracy,” said Michigan City attorney John Lake, president of the LaPorte County Bar Association. He explained that Dworkin was selected for the honor “in recognition of his unsurpassed commitment to education, as well as for his outstanding achievements in economic development and community service.”
The American Bar Association established the Liberty Bell Award more than 30 years ago to acknowledge outstanding community service. Each local chapter presents its own Liberty Bell Award to the person in the community who has contributed to the good of the community.
“The LaPorte County Bar Association members believe that Chancellor Dworkin is a worthy recipient of this award. He is committed to ensuring the future of our community’s young people, as well as the future of our county,” said Lake. “We could not have selected a better person to honor with the Liberty Bell Award this year,” said Lake.
Dworkin also helped honor the late Sen. Anita Bowser by participating in a tribute to her memory and service to LaPorte County.
