PNC & Lubeznik Center Present America’s Great Photographers Talk

WESTVILLE – Joan Chesterton, Purdue University North Central professor emerita, will offer a visual presentation, “Icons with Nikons: American’s Great Photographers” on May 8 at 7 p.m. at the Lubeznik Center for the Arts, 101 W. 2nd St., Michigan City.

This event is sponsored by the Purdue North Central Odyssey 2007-08 Arts and Cultural Events Series and the Lubeznik Center for the Arts.

This program will present a look at internationally acclaimed American photographers – artists who show the world how they see the common, the ordinary and extraordinary sights that surround us.

Chesterton will include:

* The intimate and sensual portraits of Edward Weston

* Dorothea Lange’s austere and unforgettable photos of the great depression

* The explosion in American industrial design as captured by Margaret Bourke-White

* Steve McCurry’s pictures of exotic worlds and wars, as shown in National Geographic

* Annie Leibovitz’s revealing photos of celebrities from rock and roll to politics

Chesterton has recently presented “Emerging Masters of the 21st Century,” ”Sculpture Then and Now,” “Art in the Sixties-An Explosion of Style,” and “Painters of Silence, Painters of Light: Hopper, O’Keefe and Shahn,” in cooperation with the Lubeznik Center. She has extensive knowledge and experience in art history and education having worked with the Des Moines Art Center and written for and lectured at the Milwaukee Museum of Art. She was director of education at the Dayton Art Institute and has a Master of Arts degree in Literature and Art History from the University of Illinois.
