Purdue Regional Innovation During Boom and Bust Conference

Westville - The Purdue Center for Regional Development will present the conference, “Regional Innovation During Boom and Bust: Using New Tools and Vibrant Partnerships for Economic Recovery” on Friday, June 26, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the South Bend Hilton Garden Inn, 53995 Indiana State Road 933. The conference is open to the public. Registration is $60.

The conference is presented in cooperation with Purdue University North Central, Purdue University Calumet and Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. Registration begins at 9 a.m.

The conference will begin at 10 a.m. with keynote speaker Richard C. Longworth, author of “Caught in the Middle: America's Heartland in the Age of Globalism” speaking on “What Does the Legacy of the Past Portend for the Future of Northern Indiana?”

Purdue North Central Chancellor Dr. James Dworkin, will be a member of a regional response panel speaking to Longworth's comments. Other panel members are Leigh Morris, executive director, Indiana Toll Road Economic Development Corridor; William Hanna, executive director, Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority; John Sampson, president/CEO, Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership and Dorinda Heiden-Guss, president, Economic Development Corporation of Elkhart County .

Lunch will follow. The afternoon will feature a variety of breakout sessions addressing subjects of concern to business and community leaders. Featured speakers will include William P. Kittredge, director, National Programs and Performance Evaluation, Economic Development Administration, Washington D.C. ; C. Robert Sawyer, regional director, Chicago Regional Office, Economic Development Administration and Nicholas E. Lammers, acting regional administrator, Chicago Regional Office, Employment and Training Administration. The day will conclude at 5 p.m.
