PNC American Sign Language Club Elects Officers

Westville – The Purdue University North Central American Sign Language (ASL) Club has elected its officers for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Co-presidents Allison Thomas and Ashley Germain; co-vice presidents Diana Rich and Dennis Salyer; secretary Sarah Rehder; historian Holly Swallow; co-treasurers Jeremy Smith and Amber Mayes and Purdue University West Lafayette campus representative Erika Statler.

The ASL Club hosts a number of events throughout the year for students and the community who use ASL or are interested in learning the language. It has been hosting ASL Coffeehouses for about seven years, which on average range from 50 to 100 in attendance. Oftentimes, customers who happen to be in the cafes when the silent coffees are held enjoy the event and enjoy themselves so much that they seek out further information about the club, friend it on Facebook and continue to attend the ASL coffees.

The ASL Coffeehouses will continue during the summer and will meet on Fridays, May 18; June 15; July 20 and Aug. 17 at Cornucopia Coffee Company, 210 Lincolnway, Valparaiso.

Events during the year also include ASL Game Nights, ASL Silent Teas and an ASL Silent Dinner.

The PNC ASL Club members look forward to the possibility of collaborating with Purdue University Calumet and Purdue University West Lafayette ASL clubs for the 2012 – 2013 academic year.

The PNC ASLClub has again raised the funds to send a deaf child to Deaf Camp this summer.

Further information about the club can be obtained by visiting www.aslclub.info.
