PNC, LaPorte County Symphony to Host Pianist Andrius Zlabys
WESTVILLE – The Purdue University North Central Odyssey 2011 - 2012 Arts and Cultural Events Series and the LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra will host performances by world-class pianist Andrius Zlabys .
On Thursday March 1, Zlabys will perform a solo piano recital at noon in the PNC Library-Student-Faculty Building, Room 144. The doors will open at 11:30 a.m. A limited number of reserved parking spaces will be available in PNC parking lot 1.

Zlabys's recital at PNC will showcase his Grammy-nominated artistry with works from Bach to Prokofiev. He will present a Master Class for pianists later in the day. Those who would like to attend may contact Bernel for details.
On Sunday, March 4, at 3 p.m., at Elston Performing Arts Center in Michigan City, IU Health LaPorte Hospital will present a Classic Concert featuring Zlabys performing Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 4 and Sibelius Symphony No. 2 with the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra directed by Philip Bauman.
Admission is $18 for adults; $15 for senior citizens. Students with a valid I.D. are admitted free. Concert-goers are encouraged to wear pink. In return, Indiana University Health LaPorte Hospital will distribute a coupon for a free routine mammogram to women and a free prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening to men who wear some form of the color pink to the concert (certain restrictions apply).

The “Chicago Tribune” described Zlabys as “one of the most gifted young keyboard artists to emerge in years.” The “The New York Times” termed him as “tasteful, communicative and utterly absorbing.”
Zlabys was born in Lithuania and studied piano there and in the U.S. His professional career has taken him to concert tours of Europe, Japan, South America and the U.S. In 2003, he earned a Grammy nomination for his recording of Enescu's Piano Quintet with Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica. In October he performed both as a soloist and in combination with Gidon Kremer and cellist Giedré Dirvanauskaite at New York's Lincoln Center.
