Claudia Puig of “USA Today” gave the documentary film three-and-a-half stars. She described, “Not only is it enjoyable . . . it is a heartening and poignant affirmation of the transformative power of music.”
"Young@Heart" follows a chorus of senior citizens through six-weeks of preparation for their annual public performance. With an average age of 80, the chorus presents an eclectic mix of personalities and medical problems. But the chorus members also show their humor and enthusiasm, along with their musical talents.
While chorus members admit their musical preferences tend toward classical, they willingly and enthusiastically perform the music of James Brown, Coldplay, The Clash and the Ramones. The film shows that these senior citizens are an enthusiastic group with upbeat attitudes, despite the fact that two members died during the filming process. “As long as they can carry a tune, these singing seniors forge on,” describes Puig.
