PNC Odyssey 13 Presents "Expressions in Watercolor"

Pat Lansford

Artist Pat Lansford

WESTVILLE – The Purdue University North Central Odyssey13 Arts and Cultural Events Series will present the exhibit “Expressions in Watercolor” by Pat Lansford , from Sept. 2 to Dec. 24, in the Library-Student-Faculty Building student lounge, Room 062 in the building's lower level. The exhibit is f ree and open to the public.

Building hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Library-Student-Faculty Building is closed on Sundays.

Lansford's show brings together a stunning collection of watercolor paintings that express her insight into the treasures of life. Her subtle use of light and color delight the eye. She works primarily in watercolor and occasionally switches to oil or acrylic media.

Lansford explained, “Art is in the eyes of the beholder. I love beautiful color, interesting subjects and good design. I like to splash paint on canvas or paper in random style using color triads and black and white. Using various resists and tape, I layer, dry, reverse colors and then let dry again. Sometimes good things happen that surprise me, as if some outside force is helping to design the painting.”

A native of South Bend, Lansford graduated from the Indiana University School of Nursing. She's lived in LaPorte since 1963.

“I started painting in grade school but began more seriously in 1963 when a neighbor invited me to join a private group of artists meeting at Shirley Finley's home,” she recalled. “We had outside instructors including Charles Untulis, Gertrude Harbert and Harriet Rex Smith. After this group disbanded in 1983, I joined the Saint Joseph Valley Art Group. Later I joined the Michigan City Art League at Barker Mansion and painted at the Art Barn near Valparaiso.”

She has studied with a number of nationally acclaimed teachers. Her art has been shown at the Art Barn, Gordon Beach Inn, Musikantow Gallery, Marc Nielsen Interiors, Michigan City Art League, Michigan City Area Artists Association and several shows in Mexico where she paints every winter. Lansford recently won a purchase award at the Presbyterian Church of LaPorte bi-annual juried art show.

All works exhibited at PNC are for sale.
