LaPorte Community Concert Association to Feature
the Purdue University Varsity Men’s Glee Club
LaPorte – The LaPorte Community Concert Association will present a performance by the Purdue University Men’s Varsity Glee Club on April 27 at 3 p.m. at the LaPorte Civic Auditorium, 1001 Ridge St. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $10 for adults and $5 for students through 18 years old.
For more than 110 years, the Varsity Glee Club has performed for audiences throughout the world. The Glee Club concerts feature music from classical to contemporary and gospel to show tunes that appeals to all musical tastes.
The Glee Club has inspired audiences during nine European tours and has touched people in Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, China and the United Kingdom. The singers have worked with Skitch Henderson, Marvin Hamlisch and most recently Garrison Keillor during a broadcast of his internationally known live radio variety show, “A Prairie Home Companion.”
The Varsity Glee Club is a part of the noted Purdue Musical Organizations (PMO). The ensembles that comprise PMO include the Purdue Varsity Glee Club, Purduettes, Purdue Bells, Heart & Soul, All Campus & Community Chorale and PMO Specialties such as Ba-Na-Na, Holy Cow Girls, and Four-In-Hand. Interestingly, Purdue University is a land grant institution that does not offer a degree in music.
Student performers present more than 200 performances each year.
PMO’s mission is to bring positive recognition and honor to Purdue, continually challenge students to realize their potential, and always “leave
the audience better than we found them.”
