PNC Appoints Mark Smith Chair of Computer & Information Technology
Westville – Purdue University North Central has appointed Mark Smith as chair of the Department of Computer & Information Technology.
He will be responsible for all areas of the Computer & Information Technology program. Computer & Information Technology is part of the PNC College of Engineering and Technology.
Smith joined the full-time faculty at PNC in the fall of 1998 and has taught a wide range of courses in the Computer & Information Technology program. His areas of expertise include IT strategic planning, project management, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Supply Chain Management (SCM), system design and implementation, and database design and programming.
Smith earned the Outstanding Teacher Award for 2006-2007 from the College of Engineering and Technology and serves on the PNC Faculty Senate and other faculty committees.
Smith earned an associate degree in Computer Technology from PNC, a bachelor's degree in Management from Purdue University West Lafayette and an MBA degree from the University of Notre Dame. He has authored articles, conference presentations and a book chapter covering various aspects of the application of Information Technology to solve business problems. Smith's research areas include such topics as MES integration technologies, data-driven website development, open-source ERP, service-based learning, and supply chain technologies.
Prior to joining the PNC faculty, Smith worked as an Industry Solutions Consultant for the IBM Corporation, as well as IT Manager and other information technology positions for companies in Northwest Indiana.
