Westville – Four Purdue University North Central students recently received Outstanding Future Educator Awards given by the Association for Teacher Educators-Indiana (ATE-I). All four are members of the Education Department and were nominated for their awards by the Education Department faculty members.
The awards were presented during a recent statewide ATE-I recognition banquet. PNC students honored were Becky Lane, of Michigan City; Julie Gant, of Kouts and Kelly Harmon, Michigan City who received their degrees in December, 2007 and Jeff Edinger, of Michigan City, who will graduate in May.
"These four students are all 'educational leaders' who are extremely hard-working individuals who care about the education of young children,” said Jackie Covault, director of Field Experience with the PNC Education Department. “Each possess unique and different talents in relating to and educating children. I expect that we will hear very good things about them as they begin their first years of teaching.”
The students were nominated for the award based on their academic performance in meeting the Education Department's institutional standards for excellence in teaching throughout their time in our program, said Covault. It also recognizes their performance during their student teaching experience.
