WESTVILLE – Purdue University North Central basketball player Adam Dobrzeniecki has been named the Conference Player of the Year by the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC). His teammate Drew Dixon earned an honorable mention.
This is the first time that a PNC athlete has earned CCAC Player of the Year honors.
Dobrzeniecki, a second-year center and graduate of Lake Central High School, placed second in the CCAC in scoring, averaging 18 points per game. He also led the league in rebounds, averaging 9.5 per game, and averaged more than one blocked shot per game.
“This award is a testament to the overall effort that Adam has given this season,” said PNC Panther men’s basketball coach Grayling Gordon. “He has worked hard at improving his rebounding and scoring and his overall defensive presence to become a versatile, talented ball player. He’s shown his dedication to the sport in many ways. He’s also worked equally hard to succeed in the classroom. This is a tremendous accomplishment for Adam. We are proud of him.”
Dixon, a first-year player from South Bend, transferred to PNC after playing for Ancilla College for two years. A guard, Dixon ranked fifth in the CCAC in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game. He was eighth overall in rebounding, with an average 6.6 per game. He tied in the conference with Panther teammate Matt Martinez for second in assists, with both averaging 4.6 per game.
“Drew played out of position this year, moving to the point guard position and excelling at it. He was truly a team leader on the floor,” said Gordon.
“Both of these student-athletes are very coachable young men. I look forward to having them on the team next year.”
