PNC Summer Workshops for Teachers
Westville – Purdue University North Central is welcoming area science teachers taking part in the "S4L:Science for Life-Long Learning & Leading Institute" summer science workshops.
These professional development workshops are offered free of charge to teachers and future teachers of the region thanks to a Math and Science Partnership grant awarded by the Indiana Department of Education to the Michigan City Area Schools and Purdue North Central. Teachers from Michigan City , LaPorte, Valparaiso and Chesterton are participating.
The workshops are lead by Dr. Rosa Rivera-Hainaj, PNC assistant professor of Chemistry , and Dr. Aaron Warren, PNC assistant professor of Physics . During the week of June 22 through 25 workshops for teachers of grades 4 through 6 meet in the morning and teachers of grades 7 through 9 meet in the afternoon.
The week of June 29 through July 2 and July 6 through 10 there will be open workshops for teachers of grades 4 through 9.
The workshops provide hands-on, interactive experiences with novel academic techniques for improving student content knowledge in biology and chemistry, and general science literacy.
Participants also share ideas on how to adapt the presented activities to best suit their own instructional styles and needs.
All resources used in the workshops are available to participants and the general education community on the PNC website at www.pnc.edu/S4L.
