PNC Honors Scholarship Winners and Donors

Westville – Purdue University North Central recently honored a number of students who have been awarded a variety of scholarships and endowments for the 2008 – 2009 academic year. This was also an occasion for PNC to thank the individuals, businesses and organizations who have created scholarship funds and endowments and to introduce them to the students who will benefit from their generosity.

Chancellor Dr. James B. Dworkin told the group, “These donors are making a difference in this world. Each has made a commitment to giving – to Purdue North Central, to education and to the community.”

The scholarship presented and the award winners are:

Dale Alspaugh Fund - designated for students selected as chancellor's leaders on the Purdue University North Central campus - Emily Turner, Hobart.

Patricia C. Bednar Women's Softball Scholarship - for members of the PNC varsity women's softball team - Tracy L. Markwell, Portage and Alissa M. Whitaker, Chalmers.

Barbara Bell Blake Nursing Scholarship – for LaPorte County residents who are graduates of a United States high school and are pursuing a degree in Nursing at Purdue North Central – Heather Martino, LaPorte is the first recipient of this award.

Lucille & Gayle Bluhm Scholarship Fund - supports students primarily in the School of Nursing at PNC - Jessica D. Barrett, Portage; Rebecca Lynn Billings, Chesterton; Raquel E. Gryczewski, Cedar Lake; Taryn Ann Porter, Wheatfield; Barbara L. Rocha, Portage and Barbra Sue Von Huben, Valparaiso.

Anita Bowser Scholarship Fund – for students in the Department of Social Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts - Sarah C. Miller, Valparaiso , is the first recipient of this scholarship.

Valerie H. Brady Scholarship – an undergraduate merit scholarship for students in the PNC College of Engineering and Technology - Dmitriy A. Bazylyuk, Michigan City .

Virginia Mueleman Brelje Memorial Scholarship – a merit-based scholarship for junior and senior English majors at PNC - Jessica Ring, Portage.

Edwin F. and Elsie L. Buck Scholarship – a scholarship for students in the Communication program at PNC - Jared T. Mrozinske, LaPorte.

Robert L. Carr Jr., Memorial Scholarship - supports undergraduate scholarships for PNC Nursing students – Amber Page, Michigan City .

Chicago SouthShore & South Bend Railroad Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship - for PNC students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Anna M. Boller, Michigan City .

A. J. Del Vecchio Endowment Fund – is a Founders' Award for Nursing Excellence - Heather J. Martino, La Porte and Jaymee L. Penrose, Valparaiso .

Patricia M. Daly Scholarship - for students majoring in Nursing at PNC - Estrella M. Karns, Valparaiso .

Duneland Health Council Scholarship - supports undergraduate scholarships for PNC Nursing students - Brittni E. Bartko, Michigan City ; James Eilers, LaPorte; Gloria D. Fedenburg, Michigan City; Elizabeth M. Hanke, Michigan City; Lisa M. Nelson, Michigan City; Kelli Seizys, Michigan City and Siobhan C. Wiencek, Michigan City.

Dworkin Family Scholarship - designated for PNC students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Lindsey T. White, Union Mills.

Express Personnel Employment Scholarship – for PNC students on the Purdue North Central campus – Marci R. Chism Michigan City.

Family Express Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship - designated for PNC students selected as Chancellor's leaders - David G. Myers, Wheatfield.

1st Source Bank - designated for students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Rebecca Tucker, Valparaiso .

First Trust Credit Union Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship - designated for students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Alyssa K. Miller, Hobart.

Follett Higher Education Group Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship - designated for PNC students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Caitlin D. Young, Valparaiso .

Michael J. Harrigan Memorial Scholarship – a merit scholarship for PNC undergraduate students - Alison M. Herbst, Kingsford Heights .

Horizon Bank Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship - designated for PNC students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Fawn M. Wright, Portage .

Jerome A. Hyndman Endowed Scholarship for Architectural Technology - for PNC undergraduate students in the Architectural Technology program and residents of La Porte County or Porter County - Sarah R. Emerick, Michigan City , is the first Recipient of this scholarship.

Michael Kasper Memorial Scholarship - a warded to an undergraduate student of high academic standing who is studying elementary education and who will student teach during the following academic year - Elizabeth A. Falbo, Michigan City .

Sandra Calkins Kowalski Community Nursing Fund – supports scholarships for students pursuing an undergraduate nursing degree with emphasis on community nursing or public health - Michelle L. Wood, Michigan City .

La Porte Savings Bank Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship - designated for PNC students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Cecilia M. Corona, Plymouth .

Barbara and Bernie Lootens Scholarship - support for continuing undergraduate students at PNC majoring in liberal arts or humanities - Nicholas Mucha, Valparaiso .

Russell R. McWhorter Scholarship – for PNC Business students who are residents of La Porte County - Lacie R. Sosinski, La Porte.

Ruth Mitnick Memorial Scholarship - for PNC Nursing students - Rachel L. Jarriel, Michigan City ; Kelly J. McKee, Michigan City ; Jennifer Sewell, LaPorte.

Patrick J. and Jacqueline E. Mulchay Scholarship – for PNC undergraduate students majoring in Nursing or healthcare profession - Alyssa M. Davis, North Liberty .

Murdock/Woodard Scholarship Fund - awarded to students in the upper 10 percent of their graduating class - Bradley P. Stigler, Michigan City .

NIPSCO Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship - for PNC students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Kimberly A. Kacafirek, San Pierre.

La Verne Noyes Scholarship - s cholarships for natural descendants of an individual who served in the

Army, Nary, or Marine Corp during World War I - Robert G. Braddy, Trail Creek; Nikole M. Eriks, Cedar Lake ;

Willard A. McKinzie, Michigan City ; William J. Mittler, Crown Point .

Rowley Bushue & Company LLP Endowed Scholarship for Accounting Students – an annual scholarship for PNC undergraduate Accounting student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher - Ashley Reppert, Valparaiso .

Robert and Betty Jane Schwarz Scholarship - for PNC students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Marta L. Huddleston, La Porte .

William S. and Kathryn L. Shields Scholarship for the Education of Healthcare Professionals – for PNC students pursuing a degree in nursing or other healthcare profession – Kristine M. Krasek, Dyer, is the first recipient of this scholarship.

Henry Sokolowski Scholarship - given to students in the Department of English and Modern Languages – Christine L. Kelver, Westville.

Solid Waste District of La Porte County Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship - for PNC students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Robert G. Braddy, Trail Creek.

Fran Suitor Memorial Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students – awarded to students who are sophomores or above with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. Preference is given to non-traditional students - Hitam Z. Zidan, LaPorte.

John Stanfield Scholarship – For PNC students majoring in English - Sarah C. Miller, Valparaiso .

Selena M. Taliaferro Memorial Scholarship - awarded to PNC undergraduates majoring in English - Brenda J. Patterson, Valparaiso .

Meredith and Helen Tom Scholarship - for PNC undergraduate Elementary Education majors - Christine A. Frank, La Porte .

Van Eekeren Family Scholarship - for PNC undergraduate students - Fred M. Ward, Michigan City . Dorothy Verdos Nursing Scholarship - supports undergraduate scholarships for PNC Nursing students - Heather Schnick, La Porte .

James Wellnitz Memorial Scholarship – for PNC undergraduate students majoring in Organizational Leadership and Supervision – Kristy L. Reuille, LaPorte, is the first recipient of this scholarship.

Women In Engineering Scholarship - for students in the PNC College of Engineering and Technology - Sarah R. Emerick, Michigan City .
