Sexual Harassment Policy Statement

The policy of Purdue University relating to sexual harassment is defined in Executive Memorandum No. C-27. All faculty, staff and students are expected to be familiar with the provisions of this document, which reads in part:

Purdue University condemns and prohibits sexual harassment of any University faculty member, staff member, or undergraduate or graduate student. Sexual harassment subverts the mission of the University. It diminishes individual dignity, impedes equal employment and educational opportunities, and compromises freedom of academic inquiry.

Sexual harassment violates the University's long-standing policy against discrimination on the basis of sex. It is also a violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, and Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972.

Purdue University is committed to assuring and maintaining an academic and work environment free of sexual harassment. Any individual who, after appropriate investigation, is found to have engaged in sexual harassment will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or expulsion from the University.

At Purdue University North Central, contact points for discussion and advice on incidents of alleged sexual harassment are:

Faculty: Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
Staff: Office of Personnel Services
Students: Office of the Dean of Students

The Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Officer, Mrs. Patricia A. Carlisle, 152 Schwarz Hall, extension 5241, is available to discuss with faculty, staff and students their rights and responsibilities in regard to this matter.
