Background
Cynthia Roberts is an Associate
Professor of Organizational Leadership and Chair of
the Business and Organizational Leadership
Department where she teaches leadership, team
development, ethics, organizational behavior, and
gender and diversity in management. Roberts is also
a Registered Organizational Development Professional
(RODP) and has worked with numerous clients in
healthcare, retail, banking and manufacturing who
are interested in improving their effectiveness.
Prior to joining Purdue North Central, Cynthia
spent 18 years within the healthcare field, as a
manager, program director and educator. Her
particular interest in leadership development
emerged as she both observed and personally
experienced the difficulty one faces once promoted
to a leadership position based on technical
expertise but with little formal preparation in how
to deal with complexities of human behavior within
an organization. Roberts brings her unique blend of
experience and academic preparation to each class
she teaches and is a strong advocate of educational
methods using experiential exercises and service
learning approaches.
Cynthia is a member of the Organizational
Development Network, the Academy of Management, the
American Society of Training and Development, the
Society for Human Resource Managers, the American
Society of Clinical Pathologists, and the Clinical
Laboratory Management Association. She is a current
member, as well as past president, of the Michigan
City Women in Management group.
Areas of Expertise
Robert's personal mission is to help
people work better together and she strives to
develop collaborative relationships in all her
academic and professional engagements. Her expertise
includes team building and group process
facilitation, leadership development, performance
improvement, change management, and strategic
planning. Her research interests, presentations and
publications include issues related to leadership
development, gender and leadership, team
