Listed below are some of the exciting events the Purdue North Central Biology Department has been hosting and involved with over the last year.

Biology Major Fair
The first annual Biology Major Fair was held on September 4, 2009
at the pond located on the Purdue North Center campus. With over
50 students, faculty and administrators in atendance the day
was a smashing success.

Biology Major Fair 2009Everyone enjoyed the hotdogs, cookies
and fruit provided. The events of the day
were a Student vs. Faculty pie eating
contest which the students won hands
down. Then the festivities moved to the
pond for kayak races and a canoe
race between the Pre-Vet Club and
Pre-Med Club. Top honors received
a "Golden Oar " that will be proudly displayed with their name for the
next year.

The final event of the day was the Geocaching race. This provided students an opportunity to use GPS units to locate five boxes located around campus, put their color coded card into the box, and return back to the picnic area within 15 minutes. All of the cards were put into a drawing for prizes consisting of old versions of test for Drs. Holford and Quinn's classes and gift cards to a local restaurant.

Coffee Creek ProjectCoffee Creek Project
As a community service project students in Drs. Curtis and Quinn's lab classes took to Coffee Creek in conjuction with the City of Chesterton in an attempt to clean-up and restore the waterways in Coffee Creek Park to a natural state. Coffee Creed watershed, once a pristine waterway, has suffered from flooding, neglect, and pollution.

This type of service learning will provide both valuable educational experience and a service tothe people living in the community and the students of PNC.
