Volleyball Season Concludes

| The Purdue North Central volleyball team traveled to Deerfield, Illinois on Tuesday to take on CCAC opponent Trinity International University. Although the Panthers played hard, they were defeated in 3 games by the scores of 20-25, 14-25, and 18-25.
Sophomore Brooke Lantis, freshman Kelsey Russell and junior Tara Irwin each had 6 kills for the Panthers in the loss. Senior Alyssa Davis had 22 assists and 6 digs in her last match as a PNC Panther.
The Panthers are looking to reload for the 2010 season after finishing the season 9-20 overall and 2-8 in conference play.

Volleyball Defeated in Chicago

| The Purdue North Central volleyball team traveled to Chicago Illinois on Thursday to play St. Xavier University. The Panthers lost in 3 games to the Cougars by the scores of 24-26, 17-25, and 18-25.
Freshmen Latesha Mitchel led the Panthers with 9 kills and 9 digs. Junior Tara Irwin also had 9 kills to go along with one service ace and 5 digs. Senior Alyssa Davis collected 25 assists on the night and had 8 defensive digs while junior Kirah Fifield led the team in digs with 14.
Tthe Panthers are now 9-19 overall and 2-7 in conference. PNC travels back to Illinois on Tuesday to play their last game of the season versus Trinity International University at 7 p.m.

Panther Volleyball Drops Road Match

| The PNC volleyball team traveled to Milwaukee on Tuesday to play against CCAC opponent Cardinal Stritch University. The Panthers were defeated in four games by the scores of 11-25, 25-23, 19-25, 21-25.
Freshmen Keldsy Russell led PNC with 9 kills. Junior Tara Irwin, freshman Brittany Piaseczny, and freshman Latesha Mitchel all chipped in with 8 kills a piece. Senior Alyssa Davis collected 32 assists in the loss. Junior Kirah Fifield led the Panthers defensively with 16 digs.
The Panthers travel to Chicago on Thursday to take on St. Xavier University at 7 p.m.

PNC Volleyball Falls in CCAC Contest

The PNC volleyball team had their last home game of the season on Thursday night against Trinity Christian College. The Panthers lost a highly contested match in four games by the scores of 16-25, 25-23, 19-25, and 21-25. PNC is now 9-17 overall and 2-5 in conference while the Trolls moved to 9-15 and 3-4.
Senior Alyssa Davis ended her home career with a great all around match. Davis collected 40 assists, 11 digs and an ace in the loss. Junior Tara Irwin led the Panthers offensively with 13 kills, followed by freshmen Kelsey Russel with 12 and Latesha Mitchel with 10. Junior Kirah Fifield led PNC’s defense with 27 digs.
Prior to the game Davis was recognized for her outstanding career at PNC where she is pursuing a degree in Nursing.
The Panthers travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Tuesday to take on CCAC foe Cardinal Stritch University at 7 p.m.

Volleyball Spikes IUN

| The Purdue North Central vVolleyball team defeated visiting Indiana University Northwest Monday night at The Courts of Northwest Indiana in Valparaiso. The Panthers won in three games by the scores of 25-23, 25-17, and 25-19. The Panthers moved to 9-16 overall in the non-conference match while extending their winning streak to three games.
Junior Tara Irwin had a season high 23 kills, three aces and five digs. Irwin also had her highest hitting percentage of the season with a .528 kill percentage. Freshmen Brittany Piasecny and Kelsey Russell added 10 and 9 kills respectively. Senior Alyssa Davis had 42 assists and 6 digs while junior Kirah Fifield had 17 digs on the defensive end.
The Panthers will host CCAC opponent Trinity Christian College on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the final home game of the season.

Panther Volleyball Rebounds Verses Moody

| The PNC volleyball team hosted Moody Bible Institute on Friday Night and defeated them in three games by the scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-22. The Panthers played great all-around ball and were able to overcome last week's setback to Moody in Chicago also in three games. PNC is now 8-16 overall in earning their second straight win.
Freshman Kelsey Russell led the Panthers offensively and had a career high 16 kills in the match. Junior Tara Irwin had 13 kills and 10 digs while sophomore Brooke Lantis added 10 kills in the victory. Senior Alyssa Davis racked up 50 assists to go along with her 9 digs and 3 service aces. Junior Kirah Fifield led the team defensively with 15 digs.
PNC hosts Indiana University Northwest on Monday at 7.p. in another nonconference match-up.

PNC Volleyball Earns Second CCAC Win

The Purdue North Central volleyball team defeated Robert Morris University 3-1 Tuesday night in Chicago. The Panthers are now 7-16 overall and 2-4 in the CCAC.
PNC started the match off strong and won the first game by the score of 25-20. The Panthers were leading in game two early before the Eagles took control of the game and defeated the Panthers 25-21. PNC made the proper adjustments and won games 3 and 4 by the scores of 25-19 and 25-22 to end their three match losing streak.
The Panthers had a very balanced attack offensively throughout the match and received contributions from all five hitters. Brittany Piaseczny led the way with 11 kills, Tara Irwin added 10,
Brooke Lantis contributed 9 and Latesha Mitchel chipped in with 7.
Alyssa Davis collected 32 assists in the victory.
Defensively, Kira Fifield led the team with 25 digs. Mitchel chipped in with a season high 16 digs and Davis added 12.
The Panthers host Moody Bible Institute on Friday at 7 p.m. PNC fell to MBI 3-0 last week in Chicago.

Volleyball Defeated in Michigan

| The Purdue North Central volleyball team traveled to Michigan on Saturday to take on Spring Arbor University. Although the Panthers improved from game to game, they were defeated in 3 straight games by the scores of 10-25, 19-25, and 22-25.
The Panthers (6-16) were led on offense by Sophmore Brooke Lantis who had 7 kills, one ace, and one block. Tara Irwin also had 7 kills to go along with 5 digs and two aces. Alyssa Davis did a nice job setting as she collected 26 assists to go along with her one service ace and 6 digs.
Kira Fifield led the Panthers on defense with 15 digs.
The Panthers hope to rebound after their loss this weekend on Tuesday as they take on conference opponent Robert Morris University.

Panther Volleyball Drops CCAC Match

| The PNC volleyball team was defeated 3-1 by Judson University Tuesday night at the Courts of Northwest Indiana in Valparaiso. The Panthers lost by the scores of 21-25, 18-25, 25-22, and 14-25.
Tara Irwin led the Panthers on both sides of the ball with 19 kills, 14 digs and 1 ace. Latesha Mitchell added 11 kills and 10 digs in the loss. Defensively, Kirah Fifield led the way with 27 digs.
PNC dropped to 6-15 overall and 1-4 in conference. The Panthers travel to Michigan on Saturday to take on Spring Arbor University at 1 p.m.

PNC Volleyball Falls on Road

The Panther volleyball team traveled to Chicago, IL to take on Moody Bible Institute. The Panthers fell in 3 games by the scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 28-26.
Leading the way on offense for the Panthers was junior Tara Irwin with 13 kills. Sophomore Brooke Lantis chipped in 7 kills and Freshman Brittany Piasecny had 6. Defensively PNC had a very strong 27 dig performance from Junior Kirah Fifeld followed by Irwin with 16.
PNC fell to 6-14 overall following the non-conference match. The Panthers return home for a CCAC match with Judson University on Tuesday, October 6th at 7 p.m.

Panther Volleyball Picks Up CCAC Victory

The Panther volleyball team traveled to Whiting, IN to take on conference opponent Calumet College of St. Joseph. The Panthers beat the Crimson Wave in 4 games by the scores of 25-20, 25-19, 27-29, and 25-21.
Senior setter Alyssa Davis did a great job of spreading out the offense and collected 48 assists in the win. Tara Irwin had 14 kills and 11 digs and Brittany Piaseczny also had 14 kills. Right side hitter Latesha Mitchell had 10 kills, 8 digs, and 2 aces. On the defensive side of the ball, Kirah Fifield led the way with 21 digs to go along with 2 aces.
PNC moves to 6-13 in the win and 1-3 in conference. The Panthers travel to Chicago on Friday to take on Moody Bible Institute at 7 p.m.

Olivet Handles PNC Volleyball

The Purdue North Central Women’s Volleyball team matched up against Olivette Nazarene University last night. Olivet is currently the 14th ranked team in the NAIA and the number 1 team in the CCAC.
The Panthers did not play to their potential in the first two games and fell by the scores of 7-25 and 14-25. In Game 3, PNC went back and forth all game long before losing a heartbreaker by the score of 26-28.
Brittany Piaseczny led the Panthers in kills with 9 and Tara Irwin added 7. Alyssa Davis had 24 assists and 6 digs. Kira Fifield led the defense with 11 digs and two service aces. The loss drops the Panthers to 5-13 on the season without a conference win.
The Panthers next game is on Tuesday September 29 at Calumet College of St. Joseph at 7 p.m.

Volleyball Blanked in Huntington Tournament

The Purdue University North Central’s women’s volleyball team traveled to Huntington, IN for the weekend to play in a 3 match tournament against Cardinal Stritch University, St. Francis (Ft. Wayne), and Huntington College.
In the Friday night game the Panthers faced off against Cardinal Stritch University. PNC started off strong and won the first game by the score of 25-23 before losing the next 3 games by the scores of 25-20, 25-15, and 25-19. Offensively, Latesha Mitchell and Tara Irwin led the way with 11 kills a piece. Irwin also led in digs with 8 followed by Alyssa Davis, Kirah Fifield, and Megan Staroscsak who each had 7.
On Saturday, the Panthers started the day against St. Francis University. PNC came out strong and won the first game 25-19. The Panthers were down 10-3 in the second game before they started their comeback and ended up pulling it out by the score of 26-24. Unfortunately, the Panthers were not able to carry their momentum through the rest of the match and lost the next 3 games by the scores of 14-25, 16-25, and 8-15. Tara Irwin led the Panthers with a season high 20 Kills to go along with her 14 digs and one ace. Latesha Mitchell added 10 kills and Alyssa Davis had 45 assists, 3 aces, and 4 kills.
In their second match of the day on Saturday, PNC played against host school Huntington College. The Panthers lost in straight games by the scores of 24-26, 14-25, and 18-25. Brooke Lantis had 8 kills and Brittany Piaseczny had 6 kills in the loss. Alyssa Davis had 24 assists in the match. With the weekend losses, PNC’s overall record moves to 5-12.
On Tuesday the Panthers take on the nationally ranked CCAC powerhouse Olivette Nazarene University at home at 7 p.m.

Panther Six Roll Past IUN

| The Purdue North Central women’s volleyball team picked up their 5th win of the season last night against Indiana University Northwest. The Panthers won in consecutive games by the scores of 25-16, 25-14, and 25-22.
Alyssa Davis led the Panthers with her 35 assists, 5 digs, and three service aces. Tara Irwin had 12 kills and 7 digs, Brooke Lantis had 10 kills, Kirah Fifield had 10 digs, and Megan Staroscsak had 9 digs in the victory.
PNC hopes to make it two consecutive wins Tuesday night as they take on CCAC foe University of St. Francis. The match is at home and begins at 7 p.m.

Volleyball Goes 1-3 at North Park Tourney

The Purdue University North Central volleyball team traveled to Chicago over the weekend to participate in the North Park University Invitational. The Panthers played two matches on Friday against Ripon College and Illinois Collegefollowed by two matches on Saturday versus Obertein College and host North Park University. The Panthers finished the tournament 1-3 with the lone victory coming over Ripon College.
PNC matched up against Ripon College in their first game on Friday. The Panthers got off to slow starts in each of the first two games and found themselves trailing 9-2 in both games. PNC found their stride late in each game coming back to win both by the scores of 26-24 and 25-22 respectively. In game three the Panthers got off to an early lead and played consistent all the way to the end of the game. PNC was up 24-19 before Ripon was able to string together 5 straight points to tie the score at 24-24. The Panthers regained their composure and won the 3rd game by the score of 29-27 to break their 4 match losing streak. The offensive leaders for PNC were Tara Irwin, Brittany Paiseczny, and Latesha Mitchell who had 12, 10, and 9 kills respectively. Alyssa Davis collected 38 assists in the win along with 9 digs and two service aces. Megan Staroscsak had 11 digs and Kirah Fifield had 9 digs to lead the Panthers defensively.
PNC played against Illinois College in their second match on Friday. The Panthers lost the first two games by the scores of 21-25 and 22-25. In games three and four, PNC began playing to their potential and were able to pull out victories by the scores of 25-18 and 25-17. Game 5 was a highly competitive back and forth match that the Panthers ended up losing by the score of 15-13. Irwin and Piaseczny led PNC in kills with 16 and 13 respectively. Davis had a great all-around match with a season high 44
assists, 10 digs, and 3 service aces. Staroscsak added 17 digs and Fifield had 14 digs in the match.
Saturday’s first match was against Otterbein College. Although the Panthers played well, they were defeated in straight games games by the scores of 23-25, 16-25, 22-25. Latesha Mitchell led the team in kills with 11. Davis had 30 assists, 7 digs and 4 aces in the loss.
PNC ended the weekend against the host school, North Park University. The Panthers fell in three games by the scores of 21-25, 23-25, and 15-25. After a 1-3 weekend, PNC’s overall record fell to 4-8.
The Panthers hope to rebound this Monday as they travel to IUN to take on the Red Hawks at 7 p.m.

Panthers Lose Conference Opener to IIT

The PNC Volleyball team started their conference schedule Tuesday night at home against Illinois Institute of Technology. Although they lost in 4 games, the Panthers made great strides as a team. PNC found themselves down early in game 1 by the score of 10-2 before roaring back to take the game 26-24. Game 2 was back and forth all the way to the end before IIT scored 3 consecutive points late in the game to win 25-23. Games 3 & 4 were both hard fought games that went in the favor of IIT by the scores of 25-18 and 25-17.
Junior Tara Irwin led the team with 13 kills, one ace, and 10 digs. Freshman Brittany Piaseczny led the Panthers in hitting percentage with a .391 while collecting 12 kills. Megan Staroscsak and Kirah
Fifeld led the defense with 21 and 16 digs collectively. Alyssa Davis ran the show from the setting position as she added up 28 assists to go with two service aces and 7 digs.
The Panthers move to 3-5 with this loss. PNC will next travel to North Park University to play in a 4 game tournament over the weekend.

PNC Volleyball Swept by Huntington

The Purdue University North Central’s women’s volleyball team lost to Huntington College Saturday afternoon in three straight games. The Panthers improved each game notching scores of 14-25, 17-25, and 18-25. The loss was the Panthers fourth straight, dropping their record to 3-4 on the year.
The Panthers were led offensively by junior Tara Irwin's 7 kills and 1 ace. Freshman Kelsey Russel had 5 kills, and senior setter Alyssa Davis dished out 17 assists and 2 kills.
PNC will begin their conference play Tuesday, September 8 at home against Illinois Institute of Technology at 7 p.m.

Panthers Fall to Aquinas Again

The Purdue University North Central’s women’s volleyball team traveled to Grand Rapids, MI on Thursday for a rematch against Aquinas College. PNC fell in 3 straight games to the Saints by the scores of 25-15, 25-19, and 25-17. Although the games were back and forth at the start, Aquinas was able to pull away late in all 3. This loss moves the Panthers overall record to 3-3.
The Panthers were led on offense by freshman Brittany Piaseczny who had 7 kills, one ace, and one block. Alyssa Davis contributed a solid performance setting as she collected 21 assists to go along with her three service aces.
The Panthers hope to rebound after their consecutive loses to Aquinas College this Saturday when they play Huntington College at home at 1 p.m.

Volleyball Drops Home Opener to Aquinas

The Purdue North Central women’s volleyball team played their first home game of the season Wednesday night against Aquinas College (MI) at the Courts of Northwest Indiana in Valparaiso. The Panthers fell in consecutive games by the scores of 25-11, 25-12, and 25-21.
The Panthers got off to a slow start in games 1 and 2 and could not seem to settle into their comfort zone on the court. By game 3 PNC had collected themselves and began to play consistent volleyball, but it was too late to fight off the Saints.
Tara Irwin led the team in kills and aces with 8 and 2 respectively to go along with 8 defensive digs. Alyssa Davis collected 20 assists in the loss.
The loss dropped the Panthers overall record to 3-2. The Panthers get a chance at redemption next Thursday when they travel to Grand Rapids, MI to take on Aquinas in a rematch. Game time is 7 p.m. eastern time.

Volleyball Tips Off Season With 3-1 Showing

The Purdue University North Central volleyball team tipped off their 2009 season with a successful 3-1 record in the Concordia University Invitational in Ann Arbor, MI this past weekend.
On Friday night, the Panthers earned their first win of the season 3-0 against Marygrove College by the scores of 25-17, 25-15, & 25-21. Sophomore Brooke Lantis and junior Tara Irwin led the team offensively with 10 and 9 kills respectively. Irwin also led the team with 2 service aces. Sophomore libero Megan Staroscsak led the Panthers defensively with 15 digs while setter, Alyssa Davis did an excellent job running the offense and collected 23 assists.
The Panthers carried their momentum to match number two on Friday and defeated Ohio State Marian 3-0 by the scores of 25-19, 25-22, and 25-23. Irwin led the way on both sides of the ball collecting 15 kills, 2 aces and 10 digs. Freshmen middle hitter Kelsey Russel added 6 kills and freshmen outside hitter Brittany Piaseczny added another 5 kills. Davis racked up 33 assists in the victory and Staroscsak led the team defensively with 16 digs.
In their first game on Saturday morning, PNC was matched up against Ursuline College (OH). The Panthers came out strong and won the first game by the score of 25-19. However, PNC couldn't hold their momentum and lost the next three games by the scores of 15-25, 14-25, and 12-25. Irwin had 11 kills, 1 ace, and 10 digs in the loss while Piaseczny added career highs in kills with 8 and digs with 9.
The Panthers finished the tournament on a high note with a 3-0 win against Rochester College (MI). PNC won in consecutive games by the scores of 25-21, 25-21, and 25-19. Offensively, the Panthers had a balanced attack led by setter Alyssa Davis with 35 assists and 8 digs. Every PNC hitter made signifigant contributions as Irwin led the squad with 11 kills, freshmen Latesha Mitchel, Piaseczny, and Russel each had 6 kills while Lantis added 5.
Alyssa Davis was named to the All-Tournament team after leading the Panthers to the 3-1 weekend.
The Panthers have their first home game of the season against Aquinas College this Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Courts of Northwest Indiana in Valparaiso. The Panthers split with Aquinas last season. |
