Doug Cassell begins his fourth year as a contracted trainer through La Porte Hospital for Purdue University North Central. Cassell previously volunteered his time for the Purdue North Central softball team for two seasons, but now works with all Panther sports. It is his 10th year as a trainer overall.
Cassell is a member of the newly founded Westville Wellness and Rehabilitation Center (opened in 2009) and works in the outreach setting. At the Center Cassell works closely with the physical therapists and the staff of Westville Family Care to promote wellness and ensure the highest level of treatment.
Prior to his current position, Cassell was previously employed as an intern at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN, in 2002 and as the Head Athletic Trainer at Glenville State College in Glenville, West Virginia in 2003. From 2003 to 2007 he served as the Head Athletic Trainer at La Porte High School through La Porte Hospital.
Cassell is a 1999 graduate of the University of Charleston (West Virginia), earning a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Athletic Training. He earned his Master's Degree in Secondary Education from Marshall University (WV) in 2003, where he served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. Cassell is currenly working towards an associate degree in Massage Therapy from Brown Mackie College in Michigan City with an expected graduation date of February 2011.
A native of West Virginia, Cassell resides in La Porte County with his wife Jennifer, a native of Los Angeles, CA and an alumnus of the Panther softball team at Purdue North Central. They are the proud parents of Emily (age 3).
