Dual Credit Information
What is Dual Credit/Concurrent Enrollment?
Dual Credit/Concurrent Enrollment is an option for qualified high school students to take courses that satisfy requirements for earning both a high school diploma and a college degree. This option gives high school students the opportunity to receive credit for high school and college by taking courses that are taught in the high school, during the regular high school day, and taught by qualified high school teachers.
In November, 2005, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education passed a policy regarding dual credit courses to reflect their commitment to increasing the probability of academic success in college. This Policy on Dual Credit Courses Taught in High Schools by High School Faculty is intended for all Indiana public postsecondary institutions, and becomes effective Fall 2007.
PNC has offered a dual credit program for superior high school students from area high schools/home-schools for a number of years. Qualified high school students would take PNC courses on campus or at one of the off-campus sites, taught by PNC instructors, for both college and high school credit.
During 2006/2007, PNC developed new Dual Credit/Concurrent Enrollment partnerships with several area high schools to reflect the goals and commitment of the Commission for Higher Education. At this time, we have approximately 100 students taking courses for dual credit.
"I wanted to let you know that the dual credit classes that my son took have paid off. He registered last week at Purdue and has three freshman engineering classes out of the way since he took the dual credits with PNC. He will finish freshman engineering at the end of the first semester and will be a sophomore second semester." - quote from a parent |

Cost for Dual Credit Courses
One of the benefits of taking dual credit courses in the high school is the tuition assistance program. Tuition fees for the Dual Credit/Concurrent Enrollment Program are $85 per credit hour with no additional fees, as compared to more than double the cost of tuition and fees for on-campus classes. Students taking dual credit courses in their high school who qualify for free/reduced lunch receive 100% tuition assistance.
