First-Year Experience - History

First-Year Experience Links

FYE was developed in the summer of 2008 by a team of faculty from a wide variety of disciplines. The course gradually took shape around a series of questions, about the nature of education, the meaning of “prosperity” and “happiness” in the twenty-first century, and the way different academic disciplines register change.

The PNC first-year experience pilot program began in the spring of 2009 with three sections taught by professors from the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Science, and the College of Engineering and Technology, and has been growing gradually since then.

The FYE development team, summer 2008:

  • Jason Curtis, Biology
  • Martha Garcia-Saenz, Building Construction Management Technology
  • Paul Hecht, English
  • Shirley Keeton, Sociology
  • Diane Maletta, Education
  • Mario Ortiz, Nursing
  • Christabel Rogalin, Sociology
  • Chris Smith, Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology
