Dr. Schmid is professor of Child Development and Family Studies and earned her B.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.


Major responsibilities

  • Implementing the Strategic Plan, with mid-course corrections as needed. Examples include:
    • Expand current degree offerings and add additional degrees
    • Enhance campus-wide efforts to increase student success, with a focus on well defined student learning outcomes and retention
    • Increase the effectiveness of teaching and learning
    • Increase distance-learning opportunities, especially as it relates to having certificate and degree programs online
    • Develop programs to expand and to make student experiences as rewarding as possible
    • Hire additional staff and faculty in high-growth areas
    • Increase the number of high schools offering dual credit courses
  • Planning and policy for Academic Affairs
  • Providing leadership for institutional accreditation, including serving as a consultant-evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission
  • Representing PNC with the Provost’s Office, the Purdue System, the Board of Trustees, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, and the community
  • Overseeing the budgetary plans that support academic unit operations
  • Overseeing human resource issues
  • Promoting community engagement

Reporting to the VCAA are the college deans, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Library Director, and Institutional Research.
